Not clear about "things" after January this year in FlightGear on anything. I just have not had time to dig deeper.

That was interesting, wasn't sure how to access the blip switch. These planes definitely all have their own distinct fm/dm. It is possible to design your own plane and design the fm/dm for it, and add it in as well.
It is also possible to alter any plane's current fm/dm to suit your needs. Just need to figure out how to make a map with dirt runways ect. Which is also possible. Will have to try to contact the FG community and
see how they run ww1 wars, as I've seen they have in the past.
