Okay, looks like we'll try the open bombing concept this week. Bombing starts right away, but of course on the enemy side. Plane kills are 2 points apiece. That's being generous as in Warforces ect, we only gave 1 point for fighters, and 2 for bombers. And we won matches just fine. But since all planes are technically bombers in here, I'll go 2 points. So bomb, and kill, as much as you can in a 90 minute match. And I'll score it in the end and see who wins! I've done an invite in Survivors group, I'm hoping for more pilots. I could make the match 120 mins. Discuss.

Lately the games have been going about 2 hours... Anything "new" is an experiment, and is subject to the variability imposed by unpredictable number of pilots on a given day. Until we do the war in a larger format like iMap, wherein more targets are available, and can always be greater in number than any likely number of pilots can destroy in any given time schedule, pinpointing war time is the variable for Island wars and cannot be precisely predicted. And as indicated, that can change on any given week. Example: it could happen that one war day we get 15 pilots....is it possible that all targets on one side could be destroyed in 1 hr. 15 minutes? Probably not....but if it could be....it would be awkward standing around with no more targets...then....what is the real outcome? I guess one side still manages to have the higher number of destroyed. it could be wild and unpredictable, which is why many of us want the timed, open bombing format. It more closely represents an MMP version of Campaign Mode. Hopefully. I hope that we could see a "squad war" format as I suggested last year wherein the Survivor's Group and whomever would do a challenge war...every weekend...lol But that idea, at least of issuing a call to war challenge got shot down in our forum....still not sure why such a strong reaction to that idea. It could be that all targets are dropped under 1.5 hours....but then we could spend the rest of the time having good old dogfights. Bombing is not all there is to these wars, and shouldn't be. And it is not historically accurate. I think 2 hours leaves room for both. Also gives room for any late comers who can't join when the game starts for whatever reason.

It more closely represents an MMP version of Campaign Mode. Hopefully. My opinion of an MMP verson of Campaign Mode would be, two or more planes IN THE SAME SQUADRON, taking off at the same aerodrome at the same time, flying in formation, and attacking in groups, whether it be against targets or planes. That's what usually happenes in the SP campaign mode. I have not once gone on lone wolf patrol in campaign mode. I have see that, in the multiplayer severs on Saturday and Wednesday, everyone goes out by themselves, fights and bombs by themselves, and the work gets done slower. Although I like a long game, I think organizing into groups of two or more is a better idea. As the Bible says: Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. -Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NKJV It has been tried and proven that, when two work together, they are stronger than one.

You missed all that stuff 10 years ago TARBo... we used to have matches with up to 60 pilots. We would have bombing groups that just bombed.. we would have fighter escorts that would go along with the bombers. That's more like the real war. Bombing did happen, even Camels bombed. And with planes like the HP-400, that became even more important. RB3D unfortunately only shows a tiny part of what the real war was about. Try Flying Circus and take a big bomber out. It will change your idea about what WW1 was about... wasn't all dogfighting......

Murunga and I terrorized distant targets together..we practiced serious stealth..one would fly wider but close, while the other could detect an enemy and often turn out wide before they hit their N button and see one of us....then we stealth monitored delicately going wider to targets. Often we covered each other while we each used our RAF training to take out dromes solo (not the Island layout dromes)...then trade off covering other targets. Final scores were usually pretty satisfying. Tradeoffs when dogfighting incoming was very cool...we practiced boom and zoom even in turnfights so one could step in and do the deed while the enemy would try to chase the other. Man, I miss bombing with a wingman.
And that is just one reason it would be awesome to attract a much larger number to have squads of any size. Or, just get the Survivor's Group to come to a challenge war.

Okay, I forgot that you guys have had WAY more experience and playtime with RB3D than me. I just though that it would be cool to have squadrons flying in formation and doing things as a team. According to what you two have said, it was just like that when there were more players. I guess I was a little ignorant.

Whether in a organized private war or open public server. The good ol Days

Memory Lane! I didn't know where you were going to post it.
I hope we can tweak the final document format...maybe throw it into Excel....and set it up so columns are instantly readable.
Good job, CJ!
