I tried and succeeded, as an experiment, to set up a RB meta server on a amazon web service virtual system. I chose the smallest one there is, which is ubuntu-linux + 1 virtual cpu + 512 mbyte memory + 10 gbyte disk (= 4 us $ a month) install wine. allow inbound 6001 tcp in security setup
run rbmeta.exe, done.
all in all, half an hour work to set it up and it worked just fine. 95 % cpu unused.
Such a VM is in the free tier, it can be run fulltime for a year without cost (for a new account ) and has a fixed DNS name.
so that is going to be the solution, for those willing to do the effort.
If I have / want to stop this unthankful self-inflicted task. Which might happen if I finally get fiber to the home.
Why am I doing this anyway ?
There is a school somewhere in the USA, with (according to the contact person) 10s of kids playing RB, using my meta.
That's why.
